Pavement & Materials Engineering

Scott Wilson is the largest UK provider of
specialised consulting services in Pavement Engineering. We have
collaborated with the University of Nottingham since 1985 and
provided research services and standards advice to the Highways
Agency for nearly 20 years. We have excellent links with industry
at all levels, and have worked on a wide variety of projects across
the world so have access to international best practice.
Our services cover the complete life-cycle of
pavement assets, whether on highways (local authority and strategic
network), airports, ports or industrial buildings.
- Visual condition & maintenance management surveys
(UKPMS)
- Non-destructive asset evaluation
- Innovative designs & strengthening solutions
- Confidential failure investigations & expert witness
- Specialised materials advice & testing
Our integrated operations include detailed
site investigation, advanced laboratory testing, high-level
consultancy and specialised research. Many of our staff have PhDs
and their skills ensure that we can bridge the gap between
innovative ideas and practical considerations. We have particular
skills in:
- Falling weight deflectometer, ground probing radar, coring,
windowless sampling & dynamic probing
- Sustainable use of materials - ground stabilisation & use
of hydraulic binders, including the NAT Springbox for designs to
the HA Foundation Classes
- In situ compliance testing & performance based
specifications
- Deterioration prediction & whole life value, especially for
PFI projects
- Specialised testing and research into binders and asphalts,
including bridge surfacings
These techniques are essential if highway assets are to be
maintained, strengthened or widened with least disruption to users
now and in the future.
