Geophysics

Scott Wilson’s recently formed Geophysics Department has over 10
years experience in geophysical consultancy, conducting projects
both in the UK and worldwide. Our expertise is in the application
of geophysical techniques to the construction environment,
primarily using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Gravimetric and
Electrical survey methods.
Non-destructive investigations should ideally be used as a
primary technique to target more expensive intrusive techniques and
minimise damage to sensitive structures. Short survey times result
in minimal disruption to a site but should ideally be planned at an
early stage to allow time for processing, with a further budget
allowed for proving results.
Within the construction industry, GPR is used with increasing
frequency and is now an integral part of the assessment of our
structures and infrastructure. Its key advantage is that it can be
used to collect continuous profiles of data, “joining the dots”
between destructive methods such as coring or trial pits.
Our aim is to bridge the gap between conventional geophysical
and engineering consultancies, using our combined expertise to plan
our investment in investigation testing, utilising limited testing
budgets to maximise asset life.
