Sustainability Appraisal

In 2004, the EU legislated for Strategic
Environmental Assessment (SEA) with the adoption of Directive
2001/42/EC on the assessment of the effects of certain plans and
programmes on the environment. The SEA Directive applies to a
range of UK plans and programmes including land use plans and plans
prepared for the energy, waste and water sectors. SEA is
increasingly undertaken as part of a wider Sustainability Appraisal
(SA) which addresses economic and social as well as environmental
effects.
Scott Wilson is one of the UK's leading
consultancies in SEA and SA. We have undertaken SEA / SA for
a range of plans and programmes including Regional Spatial
Strategies, Regional Economic Strategies, Local Development
Documents, Minerals Development Documents, Waste Development
Documents, Municipal Waste Management Strategies and Local
Transport Plans. We have also undertaken SEA for the review
of England's Waste Strategy (for Defra) and in relation to London's
Low Emission Zone (for Transport for London). We have also written
online guidance on SEA / SA for the Government's Planning Advisory
Service
Scott Wilson is home to a team of dedicated
SEA / SA practitioners and our experience and expertise has allowed
us to develop innovative, cost effective and best practice
approaches to assessment. Our SEA / SA expertise is also
complemented by in-house experts covering a wide range of relevant
disciplines. In addition to SEA / SA we have developed
complementary expertise in a range of related assessment tools
including Appropriate Assessment (AA), Strategic Flood Risk
Assessment (SFRA), Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) and Health
Impact Assessment (HIA)
