Social Regeneration and Engagement

Developers submitting planning applications
are increasingly being required to show evidence of consideration
of the impacts of their proposals on the affected population and to
demonstrate what social gain their project can be expected to
generate.
Scott Wilson provides a variety of services
including: social impact assessment, equalities impact assessment,
and stakeholder engagement.
Social impact assessments enable developers to
demonstrate in their planning applications and in their community
engagement that the social dimensions of the development, including
both physical and intangible dimensions, such as community
cohesion, will be addressed.
Equalities impact assessment is a method of
predicting potential impacts on equality target groups. The
equality act 2006 obliges local authorities to consider the effects
of policies and projects on grounds of race, disability and gender.
Scott Wilson has developed a methodology for undertaking these
assessments.
Scott Wilson’s social regeneration team has
experience of specialist input to master-planning and policy
development processes. We can design, manage and undertake
community engagement as an integral part of the assessment
process.
Social assessments are undertaken by dedicated
social science specialists, with expert knowledge in equalities and
health impact, rather than by general environmental staff.
For major developments, we can dovetail
social, equality and health impact assessments alongside
environmental assessments. This can ensure consistency of baseline
data, greater efficiency and development of a streamlined set of
recommendations for the client.
For smaller projects, Scott Wilson can offer a discrete social
impact assessment, with an integrated consideration of equality and
health issues.
