Landscape Conservation & Management

Our strength in landscape planning has evolved in response to the growing levels of European environmental legislation and an increasing emphasis on landscape aspects of development plan allocation work. In relation to conservation and management, we achieve results through establishing good working relationships with our clients and undertaking productive consultation with stakeholders and local communities, with attention being given to funding and phasing for redevelopment.

We are able to advise on strategic land use planning, landscape characterisation, green infrastructure and open space planning at national, regional and local levels. We have undertaken many landscape and visual assessments for highly complex projects in both the urban and rural environments. We have demonstrable experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams advising on masterplan development and contributing to the iterative process of producing Environmental Statements and producing landscape supporting statements to accompany planning applications.  Our expertise in historic landscapes, many of which are under threat due to lack of investment or poor management, is second to none. Developing robust landscape conservation and management plans enables clients to understand their resource and plan for their future enhancement and protection. We also provide an experienced landscape expert witness service for public inquiries.

We have prepared numerous Landscape and Visual Assessment chapters for Environmental Statements in line with the requirements of the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regs (1999). We see EIA as a service which extends beyond projects where an ES is mandatory – we view it as a process which encompasses a broader remit to inform the evolution of any development by identifying environmental issues at the outset and assisting in accommodating those issues in the design, resulting in a smoother passage through the planning system and ultimately more cost-effective solutions.
