Flood Risk

In the UK, Flood Risk Assessment is now
accepted as a major part of the planning process, under guidelines
set out in PPS25 (England), TAN15 (Wales) and SPP7 (Scotland). To
meet these guidelines, Scott Wilson undertakes site-specific Flood
Risk Assessments (FRAs).
Scott Wilson has undertaken literally hundreds
of FRAs for sites ranging from single unit developments through to
major residential, commercial and industrial developments. We
provide a range of services to suit the needs of the development
and the client, from simple screening reports (eg PPS25 ‘Level 1’)
through to fully detailed FRAs encompassing flood mitigation works
(eg PPS25 ‘Level 3’).
Scott Wilson offers a range of skills in river modelling, tidal
modelling, 1-D and 2-D breach modelling and flood
consequence/residual risk assessment. We can also provide due
diligence reports which identify flood risk-related constraints
that affect a site in order to allow developers to make informed
decisions on risk and the developable value of a site. We act as an
expert witness in planning inquiries. We also provide an audit or
review service where we can often provide a new approach to problem
sites.
In addition to the Flood Risk Assessment report itself Scott Wilson
provides design of SuDs, drainage masterplanning, and design of any
infrastructure or enabling works. Our expertise includes coastal as
well as fluvial and surface water flooding.
We have also designed flood warning systems for developments, where
these have been required by the planning authority as condition of
a planning consent.
In addition to site-specific assessments, Scott Wilson is a leader
in Strategic Flood Risk Assessment having been appointed by over 30
local authorities to prepare strategic level assessments for their
entire council areas.
