Project Introduction
In 2004 Scott Wilson was contracted to work as designer to
Network Rail on this major rail widening scheme.
Project Background
The route widening scheme will increase two tracks to four
between Tamworth and Armitage. It covers 11 miles of track where
bi-directional and single widening are required for existing
embankments and cuttings.
Project Scope
Widening work designs utilized have included bulk of earthworks,
pre-cast concrete retaining walls, piled retaining walls,
reinforced fill walls, geo-grid reinforced slopes and soil nailed
slopes.
Other related geotechnical activities have included assessment /
design of gantry foundations, bridge foundations, culvert
extensions and track drainage.
Value Adding Project Achievements
Scott Wilson has provided full-time on-site supervision during
the construction phase, which has ensured close coordination
between the design and construction teams.
