Project Introduction

In 2004 Scott Wilson was contracted to work as designer to Network Rail on this major rail widening scheme.

Project Background

The route widening scheme will increase two tracks to four between Tamworth and Armitage. It covers 11 miles of track where bi-directional and single widening are required for existing embankments and cuttings.

Project Scope

Widening work designs utilized have included bulk of earthworks, pre-cast concrete retaining walls, piled retaining walls, reinforced fill walls, geo-grid reinforced slopes and soil nailed slopes.

Other related geotechnical activities have included assessment / design of gantry foundations, bridge foundations, culvert extensions and track drainage.

Value Adding Project Achievements

Scott Wilson has provided full-time on-site supervision during the construction phase, which has ensured close coordination between the design and construction teams.
