Apapa Container Terminal
Project Introduction
Scott Wilson were commissioned by APM terminals Apapa to design
refurbishment works to Apapa container terminal in order to
increase its efficiency and capacity following privatisation of the
facility.
Project Background
Apapa Ports Complex in Lagos is Nigeria’s largest port and
contains a number of wharfs, handling a range of commodities,
including containers.
The existing container terminal is located at the Third Apapa
Wharf extension and covers an area of 44 hectares. Maximum capacity
was 220,000 TEU served by 6 designated container berths with a quay
length of 1,005 metres and 6,400m2 of covered storage space.
APM Terminals Apapa were awarded the concession by the Nigerian
Port Authority (NPA) to manage, operate, and develop the Apapa
Container Terminal into a modern efficient operation handling 1.6m
TEU.
APMT Apapa propose to develop the existing terminal by providing
new container handling equipment and expanding the onshore
area.
Project Scope
Scott Wilson’s role included:
- Technical and costing advice
- Review and evaluation of record data
- Procurement and specification of site investigations
- Assessment of existing structures, paving and utilities
- Detailed layout planning
- Detailed Design of infrastructure and paving works
- Review of contractor’s designs
- Supervision and technical support during construction of
initial works
Value Adding Project Achievements
We are currently assisting the Client in progressing the full
re-development of the Apapa Container Terminal into a world class
facility.
