Ministry of Defence Airfield Maintenance Inspection Term
Commission
Project Introduction
Scott Wilson is one of three UK consultants who have been
commissioned by Defence Estates to carry out airfield maintenance
inspections under a 3 year Term Commission, which has now been
extended to 5 years (2004 – 2009).
To date the fee value from the Term Commission is over £200k
with 18 months remaining on the contract.
Project Background
The Term Commission involves the visual inspection of active,
and often very busy, military airfields and covers all operational
pavements and Aeronautical Ground Lighting. These inspections play
a critical role in maintaining the safe operation of the airfield
by helping in the elimination of Foreign Object Damage to aircraft,
maintaining the condition of the pavements throughout their life
and ensuring the lighting is functioning correctly.
Scott Wilson’s ability to carry out these inspections with a
proactive and flexible approach has led to our term commission
being extended from the initial 3 year duration to the full 5-year
term.
Project Scope
The Term Commission requires Scott Wilson to undertake biennial
airfield maintenance, visual inspections and runway friction
surveys in support of the UK and overseas MoD airfield environment,
including planning, costing and technical data to maintain the
pavements and Aeronautical Ground Lighting for safe aircraft
operations.
Value Adding Project Achievements
To date Scott Wilson has carried out inspections for over 20 of
the MoD’s airfields, with a further 8 inspections expected in the
current financial year.
In addition to carrying out these inspections, Scott Wilson is
active in training new inspectors through ‘on-the-job’ work
shadowing, to maintain and develop these key skills for the
future.
