Project Intrdocution
Client:Connaught Airport Development Company Ltd
Appointment Date:2005 – Ongoing
Scope of Works:Airport Master Plan
Project Background
In 2005 Scott Wilson was appointed by Connaught Airport
Development Company Ltd to compile a master plan for the strategic
development of facilities at Ireland West Airport Knock.
The Ireland West Airport Knock was developed as a community type
operation in partnership with Government. It was envisaged as a
potential boon to the developing tourist industry and a catalyst
for the manufacturing industry and international services to boost
the economy of the West of Ireland.
Against this background the master plan sought to set out a 25
year growth strategy for the airport and the regional economy it
supports.
Project Scope
The first stage involved consultations with the airport
authority, data collection and reviewing facilities through
inspections and evaluations and preparation of economic and traffic
forecasts. The analysis in this stage determined the capacity and
constraints on the existing airport and provided a decision
framework for possible future expansion.
Having established the capacity of the existing airport
facilities the second stage considered the planning parameters for
future development at the airport and the possible development
options with regards to location and layout.
The third stage provided the Master Plan. The Master Plan
provides a coherent strategy for the phased development of the
airport to 2030. It encompasses all main facilities including
runways and taxiway system, aprons, terminals, cargo facilities and
transportation links.
Value Adding Project Achievements
Scott Wilson successfully blended a diverse range of services
from environmental, airport planning economic analysis, traffic
forecasting and airport engineering through a ‘one stop shop’
strategy, enabling a comprehensive stakeholder supported
document.
