West Hendon
Project Introduction
The client is the Barratt Metropolitan LLP. Scott Wilson was
appointed in November 2005, the project is ongoing.
Project Background
West Hendon is a large-scale urban regeneration project in
Barnett, North London and covers some 31 acres. The development
will provide 2,000 new homes replacing the existing social housing
stock. A retail centre, hotel, leisure and community facilities are
also incorporated along with landscaping and improvement of
existing green open spaces.
Project Scope
As the development requires the movement of existing residents
it will be built out over 10 years and 5 phases. This requires
logistical planning to enable services to come on stream at
different times whilst not compromising supplies to existing
residents. Local and regional planning requirements at the time
specified a minimum of 10% carbon reduction through the use of
onsite renewable energy generation.
The scheme also had a target of achieving an EcoHomes ‘Very
Good’ rating.
Value Adding Project Achievements
Working as part of a larger Scott Wilson team who are covering
the wider planning and ecological issues, Transport &
Infrastructure are specifically responsible for delivering the
following:
- Detail design of improvement to the A5.
- Outline and detail design of onsite highway
infrastructure.
- Highway phasing.
- Order plans.
