Royal Arsenal Development - Energy Demand Assessment &
Strategy
Project Introduction
Scott Wilson was commissioned by Berkeley Homes, a UK property
developer, from 2005 to 2006, to produce an Energy strategy
including District energy and Renewables.
Project Background
The development at Woolwich is a mixed-use re-development of
imposing listed buildings. It comprises 2,500 new dwellings and
some mixed-use units. It will also have a combined heat and
power (CHP) district energy scheme to provide the heat and power
for the dwellings. The local and regional planning requirements
specify a minimum of 10% carbon reduction through the use of
on-site renewable energy generation.
Project Scope
Scott Wilson Building Services were specifically responsible for
delivering an Energy Demand Assessment which estimates the annual
energy consumption and therefore carbon emissions, across the site
for all buildings.
Value Adding Project Achievements
An Energy Strategy was provided which lowered primary energy
consumption through the use of on-site heat and power generation
which was then presented to the Client. Additionally, renewable
energy was delivered through lowering consumption through on-site
generation, achieving the 10% reduction in carbon emissions.
This was all achieved by liaising with the developer, the
architect and other parties involved in the master planning and
design of the scheme in the integration of utilities, district
energy and renewables.
