Project background
Wallis House is located on the northern boundary of the former
GlaxoSmithKline site, now known as North Brentford Quarter. The
building was originally constructed in the late 1930s for
industrial use to manufacture aircraft instrumentation. In the
1940s the building was converted for use as offices. Scott Wilson
converted this Grade II listed building to residential and office
space.
Conservation-based repairs have been carried out to the six
storey reinforced concrete stairwell window, together with
localised cathodic protection to address significant corrosion of
the steel frame at the top of the ten storey tower. An
extensive desk-top and opening has been required to understand the
original structure and subsequent alterations. A new
penthouse has been added to the tower, the double height entrance
hall has been re-created and new floors and roof terrace have been
added to the two low-level rings.
