Ickworth Park,
Suffolk
Project Introduction
- Client: The National Trust
- Value: Undisclosed
- Completion: 2003
Project background
This unusual house, built in 1795 by the eccentric 4th Earl of
Bristol, has a central rotunda and curved corridors, designed to
display artworks.
We have carried out remedial works to the
lantern light, involving an assessment of the existing laylight to
establish the construction, prior to dismantling for repair. We
also reviewed the capacity and stability of the structure around
the laylight as this supported an internal 'birdcage' scaffold.
Access to the lantern was achieved externally by a 38m high
scaffold, located directly over service tunnels which also required
structural assessment. We have also surveyed a cast iron spiral
staircase. Other current National Trust projects include
Dunster Castle, Minehead and Blickling Hall, Norfolk.
