New Downe Hospital
Project Introduction
Scott Wilson was appointed as designers for a new build enhanced
£48m local hospital. Our integrated services include Lead
Consultant, Architecture, Civil and Structural Engineering,
Landscape Architecture, Digital Media and CDM Planning
Supervision.
Project Background
The ultra-modern 3 storey building includes a diagnostic and
treatment centre, an ambulatory centre, an inpatient centre and a
rehabilitation and resource centre. The new hospital will be the
most modern of its kind in the Province, providing high quality
patient care and 24 hour consultan- led accident & emergency
services. The design provides mortuary facilities including a body
store, disposal holding area, viewing/waiting room, technician’s
office and store and changing facilities.
Project Scope
The design of the buildings is to a human scale with materials
being chosen to complement the existing hospital and its setting.
Whilst providing scenic vistas for all patients, the tiered,
stepped-back form of the buildings blend with the existing formal
landscape and provide natural daylight and ventilation throughout
the structure.
The Digital Animators produced a Multimedia presentation for the
Client with a full animated fly-round of the existing and proposed
hospital as well as a multimedia disc.
Value Adding Project Achievements
Patients will benefit from the most up-to-date treatments,
technology and equipment, delivered by highly trained staff in
bright, modern accommodation.
The landscape design for the new hospital picks up on the
essence of the old Victorian estates of which it is part.
Boundary planting will mature as an extension of the existing
estate. Courtyard spaces and garden areas have been designed with
the specific end users in mind, namely those in rehabilitation and
dementia and psychiatric patients.
