New Hall Postgraduate Accommodation, Cambridge

Project Introduction
Client: New Hall, Cambridge
Value: £4.5m
Completion: 2006
Project Background
We have provided structural engineering services for the design
of a new building for post-graduate residential accommodation at
New Hall, on a site within the existing, central Cambridge college.
A new landscaping scheme was integrated in the design to unite new
and old buildings.
The strikingly designed new block uses exposed precast concrete,
zinc and glass. It will provide 40 student bedrooms in units of
eight with a kitchen and bathrooms. Disabled facilities are also
provided. The building includes multiple common rooms and community
spaces on the lower levels, computer rooms, a new porter's lodge
and a bicycle store.
The building was constructed using a mix of in-situ and pre-cast
concrete elements.
