Corporate Social Responsibility
Environment and Community
Scott Wilson is a leading
international consultancy providing independent advice and services
in the engineering, project management, planning and environmental
sectors. Our goal is to be the preferred provider of
environmentally sustainable solutions in each of these service
sectors, while defining, understanding and improving the balance
between innovative entrepreneurship and ethical practice within our
business.
In order to fulfill this goal, Scott
Wilson will continue to develop and implement its environmental
management system (EMS) and focus upon attainment of its
improvement objectives, as defined in the ‘Group Business Systems
Corporate Strategy for the Environment’, through fully integrated
core business processes.
These objectives take account of the
Group’s support for the United Nations Global Compact’s core
Principles and its “Caring for Climate: the Business Leadership
Platform” initiative.
At an operational level, we are
committed to complying fully with our legal obligations, and
adopting a preventive approach to the management of any pollution
risks or adverse impacts upon local communities. We will also seek
to minimise our demands on environmental resources, through the
adoption of sustainable management practices and technologies
wherever there are economic and practical opportunities to do
so.
In undertaking consultancy
commissions, fulfilling our clients’ and stakeholders’ objectives
is our paramount concern. Our services and advice may lead
indirectly to environmental and community impacts throughout a
project’s lifecycle. In order to manage concerns effectively, we
will always comply with the client’s own environmental
requirements. Where clients have not established clear
environmental and community objectives for a commission, we will
offer to provide appropriate technical advice that contributes to
the development of sustainable solutions.
We are committed to the continual
improvement of our environmental and social performance, and
undertake to monitor our progress against challenging objectives
and targets, which will be reviewed on a regular basis. We
undertake to communicate our progress annually to employees and
shareholders, and by request to clients and other interested
parties. We will also encourage the active participation of Scott
Wilson employees in the development of environmental and community
initiatives.
We will ensure that this policy and
associated EMS initiatives are understood, implemented and
maintained throughout the organisation via education and
training.
The Main Board of Scott Wilson takes
an active interest in the establishment and operation of the EMS
and associated sustainability initiatives and has assigned Hugh
Blackwood as the responsible Main Board member to ensure that this
policy is implemented, reported upon and kept under review.
